October 14, 2024:
Controlling the entire value chain is crucial to ensure the customer receives broadcast-like quality, or even better than what we experienced in the past.
Driving subscriptions and reducing churn is directly linked to the quality of experience provided to the user.
Monitoring what happens across the network is essential. With broadcasters transitioning to IP, using various parameters to maintain a quality that customers are willing to pay for is vital. In our discussions with customers, they consistently emphasize the high value they place on streaming quality and the overall streaming experience.
We address streaming issues like buffering, which, in our experience, has the most significant impact on quality. While buffer starvation is a common problem, it’s not always the fault of the CDN or the ISP—it could be caused by the user’s environment, such as Wi-Fi or other factors. The ability to observe what’s happening from the player’s side helps us determine whether an issue stems from the user’s environment or the ISP.
We are also training the AI Orchestrator to monitor all points of presence (POPs) and retrieve data from them.
In discussions about scaling live events, our CEO, Tassilo Raesig, and CFO, Sergio Carulli, highlighted the importance of having an analytics platform. For large peaks in viewership, particularly during sports events where the audience is highest, the analytics tool must scale alongside the CDN to manage backend demands effectively.

MainStreaming's "Secret Sauce"
Sergio revealed MainStreaming’s “secret sauce” during the interview, which lies in protecting the Origin.
We have developed a unique software tool that detects every single piece of content as unique. This means that each piece of content is acquired by only one edge, significantly reducing the load on the Origin. By using this method, we prevent the Origin from being overwhelmed.
An intelligent software that drives content from the Origin directly to the edge, close to the end user
We created what we call Intelligent Media Delivery, which features a unique distribution pattern. Positioned at the edge with a single caching layer, we’ve developed intelligent software that drives content from the Origin directly to the edge, close to the end user. This approach helps ISPs that don’t have networks specifically dedicated to video content delivery achieve better performance.
They also mentioned the Public and Global CDN and the Intelligent Media Delivery Software, which enables superior QoE (Quality of Experience), operating on both the global and private Video Edge Network provided by MainStreaming.
Speaking of MainStreaming’s new service product, CMCD+ ingestion, it helps detect issues on the ISP side too. The KPI for quality, which we deliver to the end user, significantly impacts churn risk. It also affects advertisers, as a sustainable platform ensures they can deliver impressions for their products and advertisements effectively.
Many customers prefer building their own analytics platforms rather than using standardized services, which often come with hefty license fees and service charges. By processing this data independently, they avoid using expensive tools from well-known vendors, gaining the same insights at a reduced cost.
